Description of Four o nine - Clapham

Four o nine restaurant and bar in Clapham is a relaxing hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the High Street. The vibe is warm and inviting, with a fairy-lit garden at the top of the stairs and stunning shots of the area on the walls. Modern French food is created with love, seasonal produce and top-notch ingredients by ex-Chez Bruce chef Iain Smart. Start with the decadent foie gras and chicken liver parfait with toasted brioche, then try the fresh-as-a daisy roast cod, perfectly accessorised with olive oil mash and sweet pepper compote. Desserts include rice pudding with pineapple and passionfruit salad pear and almond tart with Jersey cream, and a crème brûlée that will make you think you've died and gone to heaven. Get down to Fouronine now, before everyone else discovers it.

As ever, food was excellent and service exemplary. Menu was a little limited with main courses of 2 fish, 2 game, 1 red meat and 1 vegetarian offering. However, the restaurant was heaving, indeed they phoned to confirm the booking in the morning - I would expect they were having to turn people away. The toilets have moved upstairs but remain uni-sex which is a little disconcerting particularly, I suspect, for older clientele.

Four O Nine does not disappoint - again a lovely meal in a lovely room ! Fish was very good and husbands beef delicious - 2 very good glasses of wine , coffee with petit fours and very good value.

Four o Nine in Clapham is a nice find. Food, service and atmosphere all good but food overpriced - £18 for the fish which is what you'd expect to pay at a top (prob central London) restaurant, wine pricey too. This place used to be much cheaper (we went there about a year ago). Prob won't go back.

This was my second time to Four o Nine, and the first time meeting my girlfriend's parents. The service and good were excellent, and the atmosphere suitably subdued to make the evening go smoothly.
