Description of Geales Restaurant
Geales, a legendary family-run fish and chip shop in Notting Hill Gate, reopened its doors after a major refurbishment. The restaurant has changed dramatically since it first opened in 1939 - and its slick makeover follows a takeover by Mark Fuller, who has installed Michelin-starred chef Garry Hollihead in the kitchen. Gone is the grubby décor, replaced by understated elegance. The walls and blackboards are now a chic shade of grey, and the tables covered in jaunty navy gingham. The menu is also new and improved and now features foodie favourites such as soft-shell crab fried in batter with a Thai dipping sauce; cod or haddock with chips and mushy peas; Geales fish pie with mash; courgette and dill soup; and skate with capers in black butter sauce. Although the wine list is impressive - the team at Geales haven't strayed from their nostalgic roots, and still serve fish and chip classics including ginger beer, dandelion and burdock and cream soda. We also love the traditional puddings - jam roly-poly, and cold rice pudding with strawberries.

Geales Restaurant Reviews

I love this place. I've been a few times now and thoroughly enjoyed it every time. It just puts me in a good mood. Nothing too complicated about it - the fish pie is great and the atmosphere is stylish but comfortable. The staff are there when you need them but otherwise you don't notice them which is perfect. Definitely worth a visit!

Excellent fish and chips - the best I ever had in London

Normally I do enjoy dinning at Geales Restaurant, however on this occasion service was very very slow. We had to have our 3rd choice on the wine list as the first two were were out of stock. However they catered for dairy intolerance diners. I would recommend this resturant and think that the imperfections are just a one off. I think that the food is a bit over priced.

Geales Restaurant was very pleasant. Food was fantastic with good selection of wines on offer.

I went to Geales with a friend for a business lunch. We ordered king prawns as a starter and then haddock and chips and lobster tagliatelle. The waiter was a little too attentive, coming to ask for our order three times within minutes. The food was nice, but in small portions.

I LAST VISITED GEALES IN 1976! I AM PLEASED TO SAY IT STILL LIVES UP TO ITS REPUTATION AS ONE OF LONDON'S BEST SEAFOOD RESTAURANTS. THE RECENTLY REFURBISHED INTERIOR IS SPOTLESS AND THE SERVICE (BY PAWEL) WAS EXCELLENT. WINES ARE REASONABLY PRICED.
