Description of Green & Red Bar & Cantina
A temple to tequila in Bethnal Green. Evening Standard Bar of the Year 2006, Green & Red, combines an infectious passion for fine tequila with soulful Mexican food and a fantastic atmosphere. Big on wood, there's a comfortable bar and dining area upstairs; a loungey space downstairs. The menu showcases the food of Mexico's Jalisco state, home of tequila. Jaliscan cooking is typically fuss-free, home-made style food designed to share. Starters range from superb chargrilled shrimps with a roasted cherry tomato and habañero salsa, and a zesty sea bass ceviche, to ribs with pasilla chilli and orange salt. Regular DJs play a mix of funk, soul, rock 'n' roll, with a pinch of salsa and Mexican hip hop. Amazingly knowledgeable staff provide charming service.

Green & Red Bar & Cantina Reviews

Had a lovely dinner on a busy Saturday night at Green & Red. The food was all delicious - especially the sea bass ceviche starter. It does get quite loud on a saturday night though - so ideal for those wanting a bit of atmosphere.

Had a fantastic and very fun time. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful taking the time to sit with us and explain the range and characteristics of Tequila on offer! The food was good but portions were smaller than expected and the whole meal (which also involved jugs of margaritas!) was tasty but pricey. I would definitely recommend if your priority is a good atmosphere and a fun night which ours was. I will visit again when I'm feeling flush!

The food at Green & Red is far better than the average Tex Mex you find in London, but you certainly pay for it and I was a bit shocked that we were charged for extra refried beans when the original portion was about a spoonful each. The churros were great and overall I really enjoyed the evening, but wouldnt go out of my way to return.

Red and Green Bar and Cantina has a great vibe and friendly staff but the food was not as varied for vegetarians as it has been on previous visits. The long march to the toilets through the downstairs club is also off putting

Decent food at a reasonable price - the starters are especially good but the mains can be a bit hit and miss. Staff are always friendly and attentive though, and the tequila selection is awesome!

I've been to Green & Red a few times, and i'm sad to say that the service and quality has gradually gone down hill. Our mains were nice, not outstanding, but just nice. But our dessert was all wrong. What we ordered they didn't have so our waiter suggested something else, which when he bought it out was a cold flan custard, thing! It looked like it had been there for days, there was all liquid at the bottom. When i complained they took it away and didn't charge us for it, but very dissapointing.
