Description of Hason Raja
It's not everyday a restaurant is named after a 19th century Bangladeshi poet come playboy, but there's more than a famous name to grab your attention at Hason Raja. Rafu, the soft-spoken manager, has concentrated the experiences of his 28 years in the industry into creating a substantial menu of self-styled Indian and Bangladeshi dishes, as genuine as any served this side of the Orient. Whether you like your food hot, mild or Westernised there's plenty to choose from, such as shamdo chicken (medium hot) and ramo chicken (hot), cooked in an iron souk - both recommended by the chef. Children might prefer the very mild malai chicken tikka, created with their younger palates in mind. Painted mainly in mint green with matching and immaculate suede Italian furniture decorated with fresh flowers, there's a modern feel to the place. So why the name of an old celebrity? "I admire Hason Raja's truth. I love him," says Rafu.

Additional information for Hason Raja
Hason Raja's main selling point to groups is its large subterranean private room where you can indulge as in much merriment as you like away from inquisitive eyes and ears. Why not add to the authenticity of the food and beer (Kingfisher and Cobra, naturally) by hiring a colourful Indian dancer or two? If your group is closer to 18 than 80, there's a small square room adjoining the back of the main restaurant ideal for private dining with a view. Alternatively, you can hire the low-lit main restaurant with its elegant bar and polite staff. All rooms are served by private waiters. There are a variety of menus to choose from, including bespoke.

Hason Raja Reviews

Hason Raja is a nice restaurant with good service. The starters were very nice, but the mains not as good though all the food seemed very fresh. It was good value with 50% off, but a bit expensive otherwise. Good for pre-theatre dinner on the way to the National Theatre.
