Description of Imperial City Chinese Restaurant and Bar
Tucked into the vaulted cellars of the 400 year old Royal Exchange, the beautifully decorated Imperial City is full of happy bankers and city suits sampling the very high quality Chinese menu. Celebrity chef Ken Hom has created the imaginative menu and all the food is beautifully presented. Favourite dishes include spicy chilli prawns and crispy aromatic duck. Three set menus encourage sampling, or the a la carte allows you to choose favourites. Vegetarians will be happy too.

Imperial City Chinese Restaurant and Bar Reviews

I hadn't been to Imperial City for a while and I have to say I had forgotten how good it was. The tables are reasonably spaced and service prompt. The crispy duck and red chicken curry were two of the best oriental dishes I have had anywhere recently. Three of us ate and with a bottle of Chablis and a few beers the bill was a very reasonable 150 quid - we couldn't finish the food as quantity was plentiful for 2 guys and 1 girl. I shall be going again.

Had a late lunch midweek at the Imperial City Chinese Restaurant. The decor of the place was very nice, with the restaurant itself situated underneath the Royal Exchange. Very close to bank station.

Set menu was considerably more expensive than listed on the website, but we opted for the a la carte. Food was very nice, not greasy at all. Service attentive, and reasonable value for money. Place was very empty at 2pm. Will probably return.

Imperial City - Very good food and service, but expensive and protions, while attractively presented, are small

This was my third visit to the Imperial City Chinese Restaurant & Bar but unfortunatley I wasn't as impressed as the previous times. Everything was ok, I think it was the food that let it down this time but maybe that was our choices. The crispy duck was amazing as always. The staff need to lay off pouring your wine at every opportunity.

Wonderful meal at Imperial City. Busy, buzzy atmosphere and prompt service.

Imperial City Chinese never fails to deliver on its service or food. It was extremely quiet for December, but the set menu was fantastic and the I could not fault the service - would definitely go back again.

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant we have been to in London. The food is absolutely delicious, including the deserts - not your usual chocolate bomb and coconut filled ice creams at the Imperial City, no, heavenly cheese toffee cake and wild strawberry mousse to tempt you instead. The vaulted cellar ceilings make a wonderful setting, complemented by strategically placed wooden panels to make it more private. We loved the dragons painted along the length of the air conditioning units!

The restaurant was full, every table taken (which is always a good sign), however it was slightly too noisy! Food and service were OK.

Another lovely meal at this restaurant. The only downside is that the food is over-priced. The Peking Duck, while good, is double the price of restaurants that do it just as well. Given the number of people on the restaurant at lunch though, no one seems to mind that much. I will return, but not frequently.

I used to go here years ago and be very unimpressed but the food and service now is excellent. Apart from watching your head in the very low ceilinged toilets, the only wrong note was a cold red chicken curry but generally food is top notch chinese a far cry from MSG high street rubbish. Lovely room under the Royal Exchange. £120 for 3 with no booze though so not cheap (as the City never is).

Food was the highlight but the service was not impressive or friendly. Would go back and eat again but hope that the service was poor as a one off as we can all have bad days!

Imperial City Chinese fantastic duck, good service (even with a number of large parties in in run up to Christmas) and great location in the City.
