Description of Iznik
Established in 1989, this trendsetting Turkish restaurant frequented by Islington's intelligentsia. Iznik is the modern name of Nicaea, an ancient Turkish town known for the richly decorated pottery and tiles produced there in the 15th and 16th centuries. Beautifully decorated with dark wood, bright pink walls, floral tiling and lots of multicoloured glass lanterns hanging from the ceiling, it evokes the spirit of an Ottoman palace . Just as impressive is the authentic menu based on traditional Ottoman cooking (generally spice-free lamb and vegetable dishes), overseen by the congenial owners, a husband and wife team. Everything is prepared fresh on the premises, including the homemade yoghurt which they make from organic milk. Local regulars have include Tony Blair, when he lived in Islington, Nigel Slater, Katherine Hamnett and David Starkey amongst others. A restaurant with real character. Fully air-conditioned.

Additional information for Iznik
Iznik's general hire details are as follows: there are 80 covers. Twenty is the largest group that can be seated around one table, and 50 is the maximum number of people who can eat here as a group with other diners there. In other words, that's how many of you can eat there without opting for exclusive hire. Good group menu options: a la carte, set, buffet and canapés. You're welcome to organise your own entertainment if you want something different to the atmospheric background music. Iznik is as suitable for relaxed business meetings as it is for buzzy birthdays, get-togethers etc. Open all day, every day.

Iznik Reviews

Ironic considering some of the reviews about a miserable waitress, that our waitress never stopped smiling! In fact service was excellent.
Food wise - Apart from the starter platter not really being something you can share - so ultimately being a little bit pricey for a starter, the rest of the food was very good value (and tasty), particularly with the 30% off deal. Would definitely return

Iznik- (Highbury)- A very good restaurant. The food was lovely and the service also very good. The ambience was very nice too. Iw ould definitely go back again.

We went to Iznik on a Saturday afternoon, and were the only diners in the restaurant - though the room was quiet, the decor is colourful and exotic. The food was very well-presented, with delicate flavours, and was very reasonably priced with the TopTable deal! A great meal overall...

Iznik on good form, as usual.

We ate at Iznik and it was quite nice. Nothing amazing. But quick prompt service, decent food, and at half price - excellent value for money. Four of us ate had a beer each and a bottle of wine between us, starters and mains and it came in at under £70...

My trip to Iznik was the first time I'd strayed outside Dalston for a Turkish meal since living in London. The interior was cosy and very well decorated which added a lot to the experience, however the food was not as good as I'm used to in the rough and ready restaurants of N16. The portions were small and the meat didn't have that succulent barbecued flavour. Had this been my first ever Turkish meal I would have enjoyed it a lot more, but with the comparison in mind it fell just short.

Iznik is always a fun place to go at full price, so with the special offer this was a particularly good value and enjoyable evening out.

I wasn't that impressed with the food at Iznik, I found that it was quite basic and although nice nothing to write home about. The chicken iznik in particular was just two chicken fillets and a pile of rice, no sauce or veg or anything. The price was too much for what you got and i would have been upset paying had we not had the 30% off deal. Service was slow and the waiter spent most of our meal speaking loudly on the phone right next to us. I would not go back.

I had high expectations for Iznik, as it was recommended by a friend. The service was very efficient but by no means delivered with a smile. The food was fine but not outstanding and although it was quite good value with the 50% off deal on top table, I would have been disappointed with quality of the meal had we paid full price for it. I won't be rushing back.

Iznik in Highbury is a wonderfully authentic Turkish restaurant. Food was very good and service great. We went quite late on a Saturday evening and it was quietish which is not what this wonderful restaurant should be - but it was almost Christmas so I guess the Londoners who usually flood this place had left the city already, Will definitely be back (in a hurry) now that we have discovered this gem; and recommend it to highly friends.

I don't want to do the place down as I think it deserves to carry on doing well. Unfortunately food isn't as good as a lot of critics make out, but it is better than average, the room is very well lit and decorated, service is fine and the value is exceptional for a nice looking restaurant. There is better Turkish food in London, but not in places nice enough to take people who value decor as much as food quality. Good but don't expect to be blown away.

Was slightly worried when I first got to Iznik - it was 7pm and apart from one other table, we were the only ones in there. But within half an hour, the place had filled up and the atmosphere was great. Nice food - unfussy and tasty. Very friendly. Just the place for a low key relaxing bite to eat.
