Description of Kerala Bhavan
Every item on Kerala Bhavan's menu is made with Indian herbs and spices that have been especially imported from India for this Croydon restaurant. Specialising in dishes from both North and South, Keral Bhavan aims to recreate Indian food as it is served in Indian homes. North Indian staples mingle with more unusual offerings like fish tikka, and south Indian specialities include rasam (a vigorously spiced and peppered soup) and parippu (Keralan green lentil) curry. Don't miss the masala dosa - crisp, paper-thin pancakes rolled around a spicy potato mix, served with a fiery sambal on the side - or the thicker uttapam, embedded with onions, chillies and peppers. There's a great-value set menu at lunchtime: for around £7 you get a choice of mutton, chicken, vegetable, sambar or keema curry served with rice or nan as well as and a drink. Try going back to work after that lot.

As usual Kerala Bhavan did not disappoint. The food was well prepared and the service good. Excellent value for money. Highly recommended! MN

We had a lovely meal on a windswept Friday night in West Croydon. Enough to put a damper on most things but the service was friendly and the food warming. Kerala Bhavan is definitely the star performer in the West Croydon area.

Kerala does not disappoint. We had a quick lunch a la carte for £20 for 2 incl drinks and service. The dosas are as good as you'll find anywhere though the chicken filling is not up to much. Stick with vegetarian.

We visited the Kerala Bhavan in West Croydon for the first time in May 2008. It was quiet and small but we were immediately welcomed and shown to a nic table. The service was excellent and they were very attentive. The food, which was hot and delicious arrived fast. Though a simple dish, I loved the rasam. I'm sure I will go again and try other things on the menu. Well done Kerala Bhavan!

Got there on a Friday evening at 6.45. Service was impecible, although had to wait a while when ordering another portion of rice to finish the delicious mains. The meat dishes (we all ordered lamb) were excellent, meat lean and very tender, and portions were generous. By the time we left, around 8.00 the restaurant seemed pretty full.

Don't let the exterior of this great little restaurant fool you. Although the outside looks a little dated, the food & service are excellent. Inside, admittedly the decor is in need of a little modernising. We arrived at 6.30 and were warmly welcomed into Kerala Bhavan. We were in a hurry so only had mains, but the choice was excellent. The food arrived quickly and it was generous in it's size. Both the chicken & lamb dishes were well cooked & nicely spiced. I will definately eat here again.

We have visited for the first time on Friday evening 7:30, the restraurant was pretty empty. The Kerala Bhavan restaurant is a nice place - truly indian. Food was tasty, portions filling with a kind service. We will visit again.

Visited Kerala Bhavan on a saturday evening with friends none of us had been before. From the outside the place looked rather doubtful, but the food was wonderful. Very authentic and a change from the normal type of curry menu. Good value for money too. Will certainly recommend it.

If South Indian Cuisine is your favorite who cannot do better than this restaurant. I regularly eat here about every three months and have never had a meal that was less than perfect. My meal and those of my companions were excellent.
The service is good as is the value for money. If you're looking for Chicken Tikka Masalla and Naan bread forget it. This place is as authentically South Indian as it comes and all the better for it. Ten out of ten as always.
