Description of Livebait (SE1)
Livebait has got just the right stuff to lure hungry diners into its bright, friendly restaurant. The atmosphere is brasserie-ish in the sense that it's informal and relaxed. This particular has the same high-quality super-fresh fish and shellfish that makes the food so memorable in other locations. The most popular dish is the Livebait Platter, a huge international grouping of Nova Scotia lobster, Dorset crab, Madagascan crevettes, Atlantic prawns and Indian Ocean crevettes that serves at least two people. Starters range from steamed mussels to fish soup with aioli to taramasalata, mains range from straightforward fish and chips to panfried seabass and fantail crevette linguini with chilli and ginger and baby spinach. If you can manage it, the blackberry and apple crumble with clotted cream is fab. Effective cocktails and nice wines - more than a dozen are available by the glass.

The food was fantastic and given that it was a busy friday lunch time around Christmas, the service was very good. I will go again!

Ate at Livebait on a cold winters night in January. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We turned up outside and at a glance, thought I was looking into a fish and chip cafeteria. We were well received and seated promptly.
Menu had a good choice. Daily specials were offered along with the menu. My husband chose the tuna which was cooked to his taste but the sauce was very salty. I has the sea bass and was very satisfied. The pudding was to die for. Looking forward to eating here again

Live bait had a welcoming staff and great food. Only down point was that it is a little drafty

We went for New Year's Eve 2008, and had a great night. The restaurant kindly allowed us to increase our booking from 3 to 6 people. For starters, we shared 2 seafood plates and 9 oysters. The platters could have had a few more prawns and less salad, but the oysters were excellent. Main courses were excellent - from perfect fish and chips with melt-in-the-mouth batter to smoked haddock with creamy mash and poached egg. Rich desserts, a good choice of wine and friendly ambience.

Livebait has a good atmosphere. Very friendly staff, and food was excellent. Would definitely return.

The waiter was a bit rude at the start and would not let us sit at the table before he had set it - no where else to stand so we had to hover around the table and get in the way of other custimers - food and ambielce was good though - drinks service a bit too slow for my liking

Very nice place, very welcoming service i.e. they left us alone and didn't bug us to leave in a hurry, which is always appreciated. My starter of crab cakes was very tasty with nice bread and taramasalata, and whilst my haddock and chips was pleasant I have had more memorable versions from my local chippy! The 2 course set menu before 7pm was okay value at £17, but the bill, with only a beer and a cuppa for drinks, was still £50 for two... a tad too pricey to give it the highest recommendation.

The food at this restaurant is amazing. Plus the location, so near Waterloo makes it an easy meeting place with friends! Brilliant.

Livebait - The Cut (Waterloo) - good food, pleasant service and clean unfussy decor - would recommend to others - particularly for lunch

Went on a Sunday night but still a nice atmosphere, excellent service and lovely food. The crab cakes are a great starter. I have been to the one in Covent Garden and the prices here are cheaper (so I have been told) but the food is just as good.

livebait was perfect for a long, slow late lunch - huge portions of perfect chips, crab cakes perfect.

The sort of place to have a good conversation with a friend. Pleasant and not particularly remarkable in terms of food and ambience, but with excellent service this leaves you with the perfect place to have a really good catch-up without being overly distracted by Livebait itself.
