Description of Portobello Gold Restaurant
Portobello Gold restaurant has been shining gently in London's hippest area - Notting Hill - for more than twenty years now. Once a Hell's Angel hangout, It's a unique establishment that's a pub, bar, gallery space, restaurant, hotel, live music venue, cream teashop and wireless hotspot and it's a superb location for a rooftop barbecue, too. Bill Clinton's eaten here, and Daniel Craig was once a barman - celebs love the low-key welcome. Concentrate your mind on the restaurant for a sec: a tropical conservatory with tiled floor, thriving plants, wicker chairs, wooden tables. Start with chicken liver and pecan nut pate with red onion, then share an amazing seafood platter with your dining partner. The wine list is blinding, with nearly twenty by the glass and Portobello Gold's children's/grazing menu must be the best in London. Set menus change with the zodiac months. And if you love it so much you don't want to go home? No problem. Funky, comfy rooms await you upstairs.

Portobello Gold looked tired and in need of a clean up. The service was very slow, and the food was just about ok!!

The Portobello Gold was great, i had origionally booked for 22 people but being a Friday night we only had half of the covers turn up and Rob (manager) was great and put 100% into making my birthday and Jane's last night in London a hoot. It was a little upsetting that they had to shut the bar early because phone lines were down and no card facilities but we didn't know about the dramas as they did their best to still keep our party going. They even baked me a cake!!

The service was non existant with one waiter servicing the whole restaurant on a friday night - unbelievable! The calamari was like eating elastic - it was tough and tastelss. The phesant was raw on the bone and served with boiled potatoes which did not compliment it at all. Drinks were reasonably priced and the conservatory feel in the restaurant was nice and different - cosy....-those were the only pros..... VERY disappointed

Portobello Gold is quite incredible! On first impressions you'll think you're in an old boozer, walk out the back and you're transported into a rainforest. We were the only people eating on Monday night, we had an amazing table, set up high on its own (I guess in a kind of tree house), only to find an even higher tree house next to us, that literally had to be climbed into on hands and knees (superb for a romantic rendezvous?!). Food was great, the oysters delectable and the service charming!

Best bit about Portobello Gold is the oyster shooter. Tasty fish and chips and greek salad but horrible house white wine.

Portobello Gold has friendly service, great ambience, is ideal for a relaxed dinner and the food was good too. And if you require a bathroom break, being slim helps.

Portobello Gold was a pleasant surprise, from the outside an ordinary bar I had walked past ofte, on the inside the feel of a green house bright and green! Salmon filo pastry, calamary, fijitas were great not entirely sure about chicken and mushroom pie though! Love the huge table for a big party...

Portobello gold was very good. We were seated in the elevated seats near the tree house and had quiet-ish meal. The food was excellent and the service was speedy in the beginning, but we were "ignored" towards the end of our meal. I wanted to get a refill coffee but the waiters (seemed like only 2 serving the whole place) just rushed past. I would recommend the restaurant if you don't mind being left alone or don't plan on having any desserts.
