Description of Savoir Faire
Savoire Fair - rarely has a restaurant been so perfectly named. Fresh food, good wine, mellow atmosphere, satisfied staff, value for money - this traditional French bistro knows how to please and over the past nine years it's perfected the art. The mouthwatering menu reads like that of any major London restaurant - rib eye steak served on a fromage frais pancake with a brandy and mushroom sauce, for example - apart from the prices. Although the menu changes every fortnight, the big sellers such as the traditional French bourguignon and tarte tatin are faithfully there for the savouring, much to the satisfaction of the regulars, many of them celebrities and actors from the local shows and plays. Every dish is freshly prepared on the premises daily. "If we can't cook it, we don't have it," declares the owner, Max. There's only one thing for it; cancel The Ivy and try a little Savoir Faire.

Additional information for Savoir Faire
Follow the stairs down into the basement of Savoir Faire and you enter a split level spot-lit den comfortably seating 45 people. Separate the room with a curtain and you get two private parties with 30 on one side, and 15 on the other. No need to waste time trekking up and down the stairs either because there's a cash bar and "powder room" right there. Best of all, if you're a group of ten or fewer you can hire your very own 'secret' vault reached only by a very narrow passage leading off from the centre of the dining area. Dominated by a hand-painted Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec figure (as are all the walls) it's perfect for an intimate meal with close friends and family. The story goes that these vaults stretch directly to Soho along which, decades ago, money and alcohol were transported at night. Feel free to bring your own entertainment, but after a few bottles of the excellent and surprisingly inexpensive Merlot house wine you'll probably think you're the most amusing person there anyway. Savoir Faire closes at 11pm but has a late license for parties.

Savoir Faire offers such good value with a menu of great choices. Not top luxury surroundings, but buzzing on Monday before Xmas.

My fellow diner was a vegetarian and felt the vegetarian options were poor. I had a variance in service as one staff member was really good and the other really poor. Also i was told the chef refused to cook the steak i wanted 'well done.' Bizarre as i was the one eating it! Dont think i will be back here.

Savoir faire... mmmm.. the food was really delicious, lovely french dauphinoise potatoes and steak with Fois Gras, very good value for this time of year in the west end. We were seated downstairs which lacked a little ambience, as it was quite quiet with not the most romantic lighting. However will definitly come back. Food was great.

The food is outstanding value, the service is excellent and we love eating here. Only niggle is the toilets which could do with a major refurbishment.

A brilliant restaurant. The food and service were great and the decor was very nice. Will definitely be back.

A very enjoyable dining experience apart from the fact we had to wait over 15 minutes for our starter to arrive. The quality of the food was excellent however, and the mahogany duck which was succulent is highly recommended - an original dish. The restaurant offers excellent value for money. The waiters are all friendly, welcome and helfpul.l

Savoir Faire was a sweet little bistro on New Oxford Street. The set menu was varied with a lot of options although my pork was a little dry - could have done with some gravy.

Ladies toilets are very odd, but I wouldn't let it put you off.

What a fantastic time - can't remember the last time I was treated with so much hospitality and care. SAVOIR FAIRE is my new favourite restaurant - thanks to an amazing staff!

We love coming here, café 'bohème', Parisian bistrot feel, always good food, great value, friendly and warm service (but then they know us well now!). Please don't change it, it's great as it is! (and please keep your wooden bistrot tables - the 2 glass ones near the window don't work as well!).
