Description of Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant
A sense of history envelops you even before you've stepped through the small black door at the end of a cobbled King's Cross street. Inside lies a dimly-lit Victorian den where candles illuminate intimate alcoves. The character of former blacksmith's is most notably retained in the original cobbled stone floor and big Victorian gas heaters. A fantastic little Modern European menu has something to hit most spots, with bestsellers being the chicken liver on brioche starter, and pork and leek sausages main. Daily specials live up to their name. They have changing live music events on most Saturdays subject to party hire.

Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant Reviews

Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant provided a welcome break from a cold winter's evening. The staff were welcoming, very attentive to special requests, which helped to add to the overall atmosphere, in what is an interesting surround. The food was good, especially with the 50% off voucher, though the menu was limited (there was no steak of which I had heard so much). Probably would not go for a full meal at full price, but would be willing to have a course along with a selection from the wine list

The first place I've returned to for a second time on Top Table :o)

MP reviewed Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant on 21/12/2008

A converted blacksmiths, Smithy's has a lovely atmosphere, with enough people on a Sunday afternoon to make it bustling without being too busy. The food menu was good, with well chosen, well cooked dishes and an interesting wine menu. Good value for money with the toptable offer and a fantastic position, walking distance from Kings Cross but away from the noise.

Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant allowed me to add 3 more people at short notice to the booking of 10. It was a nice relaxed and laid back Sunday lunch with no sign of being rushed or hurried along. The menu choices were simple and the food was smartly presented, was fresh and tasty. We managed to linger nearly 3 hours before we moved on.

This little gem took a bit of finding as it was tucked away down a dingy alley and I was wondering if I had made a good choice but once inside it was a magical experience from the warm welcome, excellent service to the fantastic food. One of the best meals I have ever had during my many visits to London and well worth a visit.

Having been tasked again with arranging a pre-xmas lunch get together with friends (a tradition spanning approx 6 years) I chose Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant. After dining here I am yet again in everyone's good books for picking somewhere with great food and great ambience. The fact its slightly off the beaten track makes it attractive and love the cobbled street and inside. Food was brilliant as well. High recommended

I am loving it. But personally 30 pound per head would be slightly above the budget relative to the portion of food.

Excellent meal and value for money with Toptable offer.

Smithy's is a fantastic spot in the Kings Cross area. No complaints about any aspect of our visit. All in all, a great and economical meal.

Having been to Smithy's wine bar about a month ago, I had no problem in returning. I must admit to being a little disappointed that the menu had not changed and I ended up ordering the same meal as last time. Having said this, the quality of the oyster starter and the rib-eye beef was every bit as good as before. Good atmosphere and really busy for a Tuesday night. The service was excellent.

The food at this place is great, however the service did not match it. The starters came out late but then the waiter broke down the bill which was embarrassing as I was taking friends out for a meal. Please don't let put you off, Smithy's food is good but make sure you pay at the till.

Smithy had great food, and was very friendly. Value with the 50% off deal

Attentive waiters, calm yet lively atmosphere, not too crowded for a bar and restaurant. Nice tasing food, may be slightly bigger portions for the price paid.

Smithy's Wine Bar and Restauran, tucked away, but somewhat of a gem which would have remained undisclosed except for toptable. Thank you for a perfectly cooked meal enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere. Worth a vist ,particularly whilst the restaurant participates in the offer of reduced meal prices. I guess that an early booking was essential in order to ensure choice of all the menu, as a nearby table had to revert to second option on what were clearly popular dishes.

The food was great and the service was exemplary. Would definitely come here again.

APPALLING SERVICE. Shameful treatment- booking of 6 for lunch at 2.30pm on Sunday. Arrived promptly, it was quiet but not empty. Once seated drinks were a bit slow and orders a bit slow also. We were advised no scallops or fish cakes and ordered 3 roasts dinners and 3 burgers for the set menu. 20 mins later the waiter re-appeared looking sheepish advising no more Roast beef, in fact the real message was the chef (manager) would only cook burgers and nothing else. We promptly left

Smithy's wine bar and restaurant served up a decent scallop and pea puree starter but the balsamic dressing was a little over powering. The main course of roast beef was however excellent. The Beef tasted like it had been well matured and the roast potatoes were some of the best I have ever tasted- top drawer. I like crispy veg but for me it was slightly undercooked. The service was good and informal, perfect for a boozy sunday afternoon!.

Very good value overall with 50% off the food

Smithy's Wine Bar & Rest. 4 of us had Sunday lunch there. Al little disappointed as both my starter and main options were off the menu.. so not a good start. Generally OK food and service. Good using the toptable deal of 50% of food bill otherwise it would have been fairly expensive for quite a low key lunch, especially when 2 of the party where not drinking alcohol. Very quiet for a Sunday lunchtime. Overall very average.
