Description of Soseki
Japanophiles looking for a tranquil retreat in the heart of London need look no further than Soseki, located in the shade of the Gherkin tower. In contrast to the contemporary architecture it is surrounded by, this restaurant is a visually hypnotic evocation of a Taisho-period teahouse, and the vintage vibe is exemplified by the 1920s antique furniture, kimono tables, intricate lacquered screens and floral gold ceilings. There is no conventional menu here; instead the chef's will prepare a series of courses based on the best fresh ingredients that day. There is also a sushi bar inside Soseki, and the bar - which features stunning views of the Gherkin - serves a superb variety of wine, sake and beer.

Soseki Reviews

The restaurant was really lovely. The decor was beautiful. Great place to entertain clients. Service was commendable. Cocktails were good. Selection of sake was limited. Food was too expensive for what was provide. The kaiseki menu and quality were mediocre. Worth giving a try with the toptable offer. Otherwise not worth it.

Soseki is a great place to go for initimate meals and with friends. It would have been expensive though without the toptable deal.

A beautiful dining room serving the highest quality Japanese food. Service is more relaxed than many high end Japanese restaurants, however still manages to be efficient and professional. Seating downstairs is a little hard edged and uncomfortable, and the heating is erratic but these are minor problems that in no way detracted from a fantastic experience. I will be returning regularly, and encourage anyone who wants a truly memorable supper to visit Soseki soon.
