Description of Thackeray's Kent
This one-time home of the author of Vanity Fair in spa town Tunbridge Wells is one of the most charming restaurants in England. An enchanting atmosphere pervades two gloriously elegant dining rooms overlooking the green. The food is equally beguiling. Co-proprietor and former head chef at MPW's Criterion Richard Phillips serves an intelligent, technically-perfect Modern French menu that's infinitely worth travelling for - you won't be able to prepare food like this at home.

Thackeray's Kent Reviews

Thackery's was as reliable and enjoyable as ever. We had to try the Christmas Specials, as they will not be available on our next visit.

Our birthday dinner for six was a great success at Thackeray's. The food ranged from very good to a couple of dishes rivalling the best anywhere (Scallops, Assiette of Old Spot pork, Passion Fruit Souffle). The service was delightful: warm and professional. Prices seem a little high, however; and why don't they make their menu fixed-price? The wine list could do with some cheaper fine wines (more from Languedoc, perhaps): the balance seems to favour bottles over £40.

Full of character, good atmosphere and friendly, the food and service was excellent. We were only surprised they do not have Michelin Stars.

Another excellent meal at Thackeray's. Beautiful food, wonderfully presented, spot on service in very agreeable surroundings. Well worth a visit If you are down Tunbridge Wells way. In fact, well worth a visit even if you are not!

Thackeray's in Tunbridge Wells certainly lives up to its reputation as one of the best restaurants in town. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant from a service level point of view - friendly, attentive, relaxed but very professional staff who made us feel like VIP guests (and we weren't). The food was fab, the wine that we ordered on recommendation from the sommelier was superb and the ambience just right for a fine dining experience in a relaxed place

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Have booked a return for next week to try other dishes on the menu. My guest and I agreed that the Lemon Posson is worth getting fat for!

We had lunch at Thackeray's - Kent from the 3 course Menu du Jour. At £17.50 for 3 courses, this was outstanding value. The food was consistently good, and superbly presented, with the artichoke veloute particularly well received by our very foodie guests. Service was perfect, attentive yet not obtrusive and the ambience in the restaurant spot on.
