Description of Thai Origin
This Thai restaurant ticks all the boxes when it comes to pleasing customers. The location, just off Ken High, is perfect for Kensington brahmins and Notting Hillites, and the smart, modern decor is pleasant and welcoming. If you're seeking casual dining, the upstairs dining room is the choice, while more traditional dining is offered downstairs. The huge menu is a tradition, too. We like the mixed starters because it has everything on our hit parade, followed by the red curry with duck breast or deep-fried tilapia fish, then Thai pancake with ice cream.

Additional information for Thai Origin
There is no private dining room at Thai Origin but the whole restaurant is available for hire as is the downstairs seating area. Guests can order a la carte or from a range of menus starting at £18.95

Thai Origin Reviews

We had dinner at Thai Origin with friends and two kids, service was very friendly and great with the kids. Food was good Thai kitchen, a bit more on the traditional side, which was just fine for us. The large room in the lower ground was not full, so it felt a bit cold.

I booked at Thai Origin as a surprise for my fiance for New Year's Eve. I know Kensington Church Street fairly well but had a little trouble finding the restaurant as it looks quite plain from the outside. We were led to the downstairs dining area which was tastefully decorated. The staff were very friendly and attentive; eager to please and answer questions. The service was prompt and we were delighted with our food from start to finish. We'll be back again!

Ambience was very nice downstairs and prevented any cold draughts coming in, should you be sitting on street level!

Food was nice, but not outstanding. Service was prompt and food came out soon after ordering. With the 25% discount, two starters, two mains and two glasses of wine came to £36 which is good value in the neighbourhood.

Thai Origin was a little bit disappointing - the decor looked a little worn and I was left a bit uninspired by the food which was also definitely well in the 'pricey' range for Thai. Service was prompt and very polite and the food was of good quality but this is not somewhere I would return - I think you can get much better Thai and cheaper elsewhere in London.

We had dinner at THAI ORIGIN on December 31st, the restaurant room downstairs was nice and overcame the first impressions of the ground floor. The service was good and friendly however I was disappointed by the starters as looked like what you can buy from sainsbury. The rest of the meal was ok but not my best Thai. I guess it comes with price tag of £25 (only one glass of wine). Did get 25%off through Top Table special offers.

Pleasant restaurant with lovely food - however, the ambience wasn't great and overall i would say this was just a nice, average night out, nothing awe-inspiring.And just realised, we didn't get the 25% off deal!!!

The main part of Thai Origin was located underground but was well lit and inviting. It felt quite relaxed which was great for catching up with friends. We ordered a mix of 4 starters and mains. The food was generally well done, the sea bass deserving a mention. Everybody was satisfied. My only gripe was that some of the rice was under done. Portions were healthy, we did not have room for desert!

Went to Thai Origin, have been before as like the restaurant. This time the starter was very poor, quite expensive 2 to share and greasy and poor quality, not taste of much. Mains better. Prices have gone up. Overall it's not a bad place, comfortable basement for a cold night, think they need to work on food quality a bit though. Toilets could be tarted up too.

food was absolutlely delicious. make sure to sit downstairs if you would like a proper sit down meal. upstairs is a bit like wagamama with benches.

I visited Thai Origin on a Friday evening. It was a lovely ambiance, very pleasant and really great service. The food was really nice too. It was fairly good value for money. I will definitely go there again!

Despite the write ups of previous diners, I have to say we were disappointed with Thai Origin - not only was it very expensive but service was intermittent at best and the attitude of the staff very casual. The food itself was okay although the first course was excessively spicy and we have eaten much better thai food elsewhere. Not recommended.

Thai Origin was the perfect venue for a relaxed Saturday night meal with friends. Good wine, good choice of food which was all delicious, especially the chicken phad thai and the 'weeping tiger' - sizzling fillet steak served on a skewer. Will definitely be going again.

The food at Thai Origin is good but the place was deserted and the prices a little high without the benefit of the TT deal.

The food was excellent. Try the Seabass for sure. The satay, tom yum, som tam, red n green curry were all very good. The crying tiger was excellent as well. A very good find!

Thau Origin was one of the best Thai meals I have had for a long time. The only let down was the fish cakes which were very dry and tough, and the white wine not chilled. The service was very friendly, and efficient, although fairly expensive they made up for it with the plate full of food they serve.

AH reviewed Thai Origin on 12/12/2008

Thai Origin is a super little restaurant serving delicious Thai food half way up Kensington Church Street. With the 25% discount on the TT offer, it is really good value and if you like Thai food, give it a try. The Prawn green thai curry was excellent!
