Admiralty restaurant in Somerset House was up to its usual high standard. Lovely setting with good food and pleasant waiters

Once again the standard at the Admiralty restaurant within Somerset House, Strand, London was very high and friends attending for the first time were impressed. The only drawback was some mis communication between order and kitchen. This was resolved without any fuss.

The Admiralty is a good place to take your parents! A lovely formal setting and very good waiters if a little unfriendly and over-stretched. The lunch menu was rather brief on this, my second visit in as many years although the food was all very tasty. Fantastic Mackeral starter and OK mains of Welsh trout. The interesting-on-paper rhubarb soup dessert was a little heavy in reality.

Nice place. Would go again.

The Admiralty was a delight for lunch with friends - on a sunny day the direct sunlight was a little distracting, but the food was lovely, and the service exceptional. Some interesting flavours to choose between, and well-sized portions.

The Admiralty is an adequate place to eat, but if the Maitre d' could raise a smile and his waiters could relax and enjoy their customers, it would be a good place to eat.

Very good menu, including interesting vegetarian options, and service very good, although our wine was on a table away from us, so we could not serve ourselves, and the room was noisy - probably because the ceilings are high and there are lots of hard surfaces. no heistation about going back though.

Fab food! Lacking in atmosphere - but it wasn't very busy, so that probably impacted ambiene.

Wonderful setting, convivial atmosphere. Service prompt, impeccable and not intrusive. Food more provincial French than Parisian. Paté e foie gras delicious but served too chilled. Confit of duck very tender and delicious, could/should have been served with additional vegetable. Creme brulée tasty and good consistency but should either be hot or cold, not in-between. Overall a great place for a discreet but jolly meal. Will go again

Usual high standard at this establishment even though the main restaurant wasnt open and we were squeezed into the smaller side restaurant

I had lunch with my wife at 'The Admiralty' celebrating our first anniversary. The staff were very helpful and cheerful the food was delicious and well presented. Classic Cocktails at a reasonable price. The music was hardly audible and the decor was sparse with not much to look at. Needs some large navy prints! Was nearly charged for three courses when we'd eaten two but I believe this was a genuine mistake. Check your bill though!

great as always - good food in fantastic surroundings

We wanted a romantic meal for two at the Admiralty, the setting is awesome but unfortunately for a friday night is was very quiet and we were in the small room with not much atmosphere, food was yummy and rich. Overall a good night but a little quiet.

Shezre McMurray reviewed The Admiralty Restaurant on 03/01/2009

I very much enjoyed my lunch at The Admiralty. The food I had was absolutely delicious and quite original but there wasn't a huge variety from which to choose on the menu. It was very reasonably priced, especially for the set menu, the service was immaculate and they were very accommodating. They had, however, run out of a few of the main courses which was a shame but understandable because we were having a relatively late lunch. I would definitely go there again.

The Admiralty: Food and service very good but the dining room is freezing. Others complained. Not good on a cold grey rainy day!

As usual the Admirality Restaurant performs to its high standards. Great place for a work lunch.

We had an early lunchtime meal at the Admiralty Restauant so things were rather quiet. Menu quite varied and food well cooked and enjoyable. Presentation was good.
