Description of The Ambassador Cafe
Exmouth Market has more than its fair share of critically-acclaimed restaurants, the Ambassador Café among them. For all its fame, decked out in grey lino flooring, white globe lights and Formica tables, it looks rather unremarkable. All the detail has cleverly gone into the terrific, 'I wan't everything' Modern European menu. There's breakfast (buttermilk pancakes with treacle bacon), Sunday brunch (Macaroni cheese), a great-value set lunch, and dinner. Oh, the dinner. Talk about mouthwatering... Perfectly poached halibut in the sweet, savoury juices of carrots, cabbage and Alsace bacon combined. Braised pork belly with fluffy gnocchi, bulbous broad beams and garlic. Gorgeous stuff. And that's before you've got to the 'oh yummy!' dessert list. When the sun's a shinin', you can eat outside on the cobbled market street. Nice.

Additional information for The Ambassador Cafe

Having enjoyed the Ambassador Cafe before, we were pleasantly surprised by an excellent wine tasting and a really good value wine tasting menu; 3 courses for £18.
The ambience was lively and a nice touch was the candle on my wife's dessert for her birthday!

The Ambassadors Cafe once again provide a superb selection of food and wine. It was a fight between the sea bass and incredible rib eye as to the best dish. Also excellent and friendly service, as ever

We went to the Ambassador Cafe with a group of 8; service was fine, but the food was distinctly average and overpriced

Second time I have been here in one week. Once for lunch, then last night for dinner. I have been walking past this place for over a year and really don't know why I didn't go sooner. Food is superb, but unfussy, just like the staff and the atmosphere which for me make it a great all round experience.

The Ambassador Cafe is one of those places that reminds you of traditional, independent and owner-run French Brasseries - excellent food, service and a good menu with a personal touch that you just don't get with the big chains. Particularly well located for after-Sadlers Wells dining.

I really enjoyed the carrot and beetroot soup at The Ambassador Cafe. The halibut was good. I thought the risotto was a bit chalky tasting. The service was quite good.

Ambassador Café came highly recommended to me in a review in Time Out, and they weren't wrong. Great food, great service - make sure you save room for the superb desserts. My apple soufflé was incredible.

Perfect for eating after a performance at Sadlers Wells, the Ambassador was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. But the food hit exactly the right spot. A nice, seasonal menu delivered lots of warming, autumnal comfort food. Add a comprehensive wine list, with lots of choice in the lower price bands, very capable service and the Ambassador remains a top notch option, deserving to fight off the enroaching chain-restaurants springing up in this area.

I had the most wonderful evening yesterday at The Ambassador Cafe in Exmouth Market. The waiters and the manager were extremely helpful, the place was lovely but most of all, the food was perfect. We had the basil soup with pine nuts, some of us had the steak, others the lamb and another one the risotto: all delicious. Don't miss the caramelized apples souffle: jummy!

The Ambassador Cafe was a delight. Nothing special to look at but inside is attractive and comfortable with a lovely ambience. Excellent service throughout, from the warm welcome to the cheerful goodbyes. Food was top quality and well presented with a good choice of wines. Great location. Highly recommended!

Enjoyed my meal at the Ambassador Cafe. Stripped down French slightly retro feel. Good tasty traditional french staples tapas option for starters. Good wine list, plenty of glass options.....

Ambassador Cafe had really good food and service again, and really understanding given that we booked for seven people and only two people showed up for dinner.
