Description of The Archduke
The Archduke Restaurant on London's South Bank is set in stunningly converted Victorian railway arches just a step from the Royal Festival Hall, National Theatre, London Eye, London IMAX, and Waterloo Station, so it's packed with arty types, tourists, and clever commuters who know where to relax before hitting the rails. Set on multiple levels, The Archduke is filled with light and greenery. The restaurant is on the first floor and there's a conservatory with neo-colonial fans and Casablanca rattan furniture. Live jazz wafts around the high ceilings from Monday through Saturday. Modern European dishes include starter of duck and puy lentil terrine with plum compote, main course of sea bass with couscous and Mediterranean vegetables with pesto dressing, and dessert of thick toffee pecan pie with cream. The Archduke's popular Presto Menu will get you back to work or to the theatre before the curtain goes up.

The Archduke Reviews

The food at the Archduke was really good and extremely reasonable with the TT offer. wine was a bit dear but seems to be the norm in restaurants now!!! Atmosphere was good and we were sat on a table at the front by the windows so was excellent. Had to get the bill amended twice as we had been incorrectly charged for a couple of things but apart from that, was a really good evening. Would go again.

The Archduke is in a great location on the Southbank. The venue is nice - built into the brick railway arches. The service was good considering it was a busy Friday night and the food was nice...

Food was delightful but the service was very poor. The waiters were friendly enough but not attentive.

Lovely venue with excellent service and food. The pan fried mullet was excellent.... The live jazz is also a nice touch.

Good location, nice ambience but the pork on the set menu was a bit tough and chewry. good taste but overcooked.

The Archduke is a long established restaurant which is very convenient for the South Bank. The ambience is delightful despite the passage of trains overhead, while the food is varied and very good in quality and value. The special Top Table menu is especially good value. Our service was a little negectful (albeit friendly) and I was glad we weren't in a hurry. The wine list only has one rose - surprising given its current popularity and suitability for midday. It should open earlier at night.

Lovely ambience but the service was average and the food only average as well. Not one I would recommend or visit again

Dined at the Archduke with friends to celebrate my birthday. Good first impression- nice atmosphere, and a friendly welcome. The specials menu was rather limited, so we opted to eat from the normal menu. Food wasn't amazing- the duck starter I went for was straight from the fridge & lacked flavour. My friends' starters were all considered 'ok'. The mains were better- my lamb shank was very nice. Desserts again seemed to lack innovation, but were generally not bad. I enjoyed the piano jazz.
