Description of The Bountiful Cow
The Bountiful Cow in London's Holborn area is one generous beast. Formerly a regular sort of pub, it has been acquired by Roxy Beaujolais of The Seven Stars and led into the twenty-first century with bright décor, witty bovine-themed antique ads and film posters, quality beers, great wines, and a young, relaxed ambience. You may dine in the upper bar level with its seventies-style red banquettes, or the lower level where the kitchen is visible through glass for your entertainment. Either way, you'll find a short menu of well-hung, beef-based items of the steak and burger variety, garnished with green salad and bearnaise. Have chips on the side and be content. Biggie & Sugie, the pub's beautiful and friendly Bengal cats, are also on hand to add to the cosy atmosphere. An excellent jazz trio on Saturday nights is on offer from 8:30pm - 11:30pm, complete with free entry.

The Bountiful Cow Reviews

The Bountiful Cow certainly will not win any prizes for beauty, in fact it''s one of less imposing pubs I''ve been to. But if you want a very good steak, some very resonably priced wine and a decent selection of cask conditioned beers it great value. The menu is short, the food unsophisticated, but the Shepadic salad and steak and chips I ate were first class. A very decent St Emilion for twenty quid topped it off. If you want good value, well cooked meat...this does the trick

The steaks are really huge portion... good value for money!

Went here for our Christmas lunch and we were not dissapointed. Really good food at fair price, will go back.

Arriving at The Bountiful Cow we gave our name , yet were asked on 3 occassions if we were another party! We were shown a table and drinks brought as ordered , however 25 minutes later we were still sitting being ignored, whilst the staff chatted behind the bar. Eventually after seeing the meals served at an adjacent table, below par steaks and a few chips (which were not homecooked), we decided to pay for our drinks and leave. Will NOT return or recommend. Shocking attitude in a credit crunch!

Although huge portions the quality of the food was extremely average. The starter smoked salmon was dry and salty - the olives inedible from the malt vinegar and the steaks arrived hardly warm and not that flavoursome. If I ever do every go there again I will order the hamburger! Found the prices very expensive for the quality given.

The Bountiful Cow was great for a Sunday roast with some friends - live jazz from 2pm was a treat. This is the sort of place you wouldn't walk into if you saw it from outside but once inside it is funky, warm and has some cool cow themed decor. Would definitely go back.

The bountiful cow was just ok - I have had better steaks elsewhere, and the roast came only with potatoes even though we asked if it came with vegetables. Overall, it was ok, but I would not rush back. Better roasts and better steak for better value elsewhere.

Excellent steak! As good a steak as I have had in London. Highly recommend it.

Incredibly good staeks and very well priced. The wine list is short but very affordable. Cracking venue!

The Bountiful Cow had the most amazing steaks I have ever seen. They werent overpriced and they looked so good. A few of the group used the Burger and a glass of Wine deal and the burger was massive! It tasted fantastic, not like the rubbish you usually get too. The service wasnt fantastic but the place was cosy and hidden away. Free from trendies, we all had a fantastic evening. I would definately reccommend it.

The Bountiful Cow was a suprise music (live Jazz) was great the cheese plate could have fed 4 or 5 people and steaks cooked to perfection plus they were large enough to enjoy

An excellent burger and chips. However the 'ambience' was non existant - felt like Joes Caf!

CS reviewed The Bountiful Cow on 10/12/2008

Great no nonsence food. Huge portions and cheap.

Someone had puked in the male toilets and the staff didn't seem to be too bothered about clearing it up. A nasty job though so not a big criticism!

The Bountiful Cow is a great little find and one of a handful of good, affordable restaurants around the Holborn area. Warm, relaxed and a fun environment - its not posh but doesn't pretend to be. The food is good - for meat lovers only - and come in generous portions. Don't be tempted by the puds though - they'll take you back to your school dinners (and not in a good way...)

This looks like the kind of place I normally would avoid at all costs but Id read all the good reviews! The decor is very USA pub/diner and the horror movie "Raw Meat" poster didnt exactly make me feel hungry- until I saw the food! The sizes are huge and it was the best burger I have had for ages. Not somewhere for a romantic date but if you like your meat and feeling "in the know" about a hidden gem then this is the place for you! Grab an ale while you wait.
