Description of The Bull
At Highgate, where drovers once stopped to quench their thirst on the long road to market in London, stands The Bull, a historic pub now recreated as a top class gastropub. The whitewashed exterior remains, but the interior has been lightened and brightened, with an open plan dining room, creamy walls, open fires on two floors, a mahogany bar, and a sunlit terrace. Jeremy Hollingsworth, a Michelin star earner at Quo Vadis, is Executive Head Chef. The menu reflects his dedication to high-quality, modern British cuisine with strong French accent. Dishes include a fantastic array of homemade breads, starter of gnocchi with girolles, shallots, tomato and rocket pesto, main course of rump of lamb with boulangere potatoes, baby spinach, tomato and tarragon and dessert of gooseberry fool with sable biscuit. Servings are generous and the international wine list includes some welcome chilled reds. There's an American pool table on the first floor.

Additional information for The Bull
An informal, intimate but professional gastropub with a long past, The Bull could be the perfect place for your party, reception, launch, or event. A private dining room seats up to twenty, or the first floor pub area can be made private, seating up to 70, especially good for events where playing pool or watching sports is involved. The modern British menus devised by Executive Head Chef Jeremy Hollingsworth of The House in Islington could include dishes like starter of salad paysanne with mustard vinaigrette, main course of roast cod, octopus and chorizo stew with sauce romesco, and dessert of hot Valrhona chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream. The service is extremely friendly and helpful.

The Bull. A great lace to bring friends to for sunday lunch, very inviting embience. Quite a lot of younger people under 35 are among the custonmers. I could not fault the food made with fresh and high quality ingredients. The service let them down this time -- we had to wait for dessert for 20 mins. Can't call the place exactly child friendly, they don't seem to have high chairs for kids, but there is a special menue for children. Overall we had a great time! Highly recommended!

The food was scruptious, the sataff is very polite and efficient, nice atmosphere. However, in terms of prices the meal was slightly overated.

Very quiet on a Sunday evening but still managed to bring main courses at different times. Food perfectly OK once it arrived though.

Great village location

Food was above all excellent. A superb pork belly - crisp crackling and melt-in-mouth meat, and a sumptious beef pie. The wine list is very good too. One thing I do find a bit odd is the almost complete absence of a bar area. They have one little table tucked away in the corner where we had a pre-dinner drink - but that became another dining table later on. It was pretty quiet despite being a Friday evening, but the ambience was pleasant. Excellent food at reasonable prices.

Very pleasant evening. Friendly staff, great food - particularly the scallops starter - and a very enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere

Nice place, maybe a little pricey for the food. Then again, neither of us had the fish which we later found out is the specialty.

The Bull Highgate - food excellent again, though service dropped a little as it was so busy (free glass of wine to compensate always helps!) and it wasnt that delayed. Toilets a bit of a mess sadly.

Although the food was enjoyed, especially dessert! It did seem like the price of the meal was too expensive for the quailty and amount of it. Can get the same quality food at a more competative rate elsewhere.

The Bull was great for Chrissie lunch. Only down side I would say was that there was no veggie options on the set menu. Once questioned they provided options.
