The Ceylon Tavern Reviews

The staff were very attentive to our needs... the hoppers were really tasty including the tarka dhal... however the mutton curry could have been a little thicker. The style of the restaurant did represent the colonial Sri Lanka I am familiar with... overall it was a good meal.

4 of us went for dinner on a Saturday night and although the restaurant was empty, the atmosphere made it feel as though we were in a private dining room. Food and service were second-to-none. To be able to sample Sri Lankan food as good as that in London was a treat, we will be returning.

A really, really lovely meal served to us by lovely people. The food was interesting and very tasty and was all served in the wonderful old colonial surrounds of this beautiful restaurant. We'll definitely go back.

The Ceylon Tavern is a great spot to have found for some tasty good in a tastefully decorated environment. There were three of us and we had 3 buffet menus for around £14 each, which inc a range of starters and mains that were delicious, but too much food for three! So we got a big doggie bag! Only minor thing is that the staff are almost too helpful!! But a really great find that deserved to be busier.

The Ceylon Tavern does not do itself justice from the outside. The interior is cosy and attractive. Food was very well cooked and flavoured. It is different to standard south Asian food which is usually Paksitani/Bengali. Service was attentive and unobtrusive. Value for money was exceptional, since we had the £11.95 fixed price menu, which gave a choice of starter and 3 curries for main from a selection with rice and roti - plenty of food. We'll be back, highly recommended.

Lovely little retaurant, however we were the only ones in there as it was early, but the food was great and felt authentic, also a sweet waitress who was keen to help...recommended!

A quirky wee place the drab outside of which didn't do the attractive interior with wierd & wonderful clocks & carvings adorning the walls justice. The folk running it were adorable, very attentive and knowledgable about the food. They were proud to be running a Sri Lankan restaurant, and it showed in the food which was served in lots of tasty small portions, so an assault on the taste buds, with lots of coconut and spice! Not bad value either.Just tell them to get some decent traditional music on!

The Ceylon Tavern was lovely. Nice food, friendly staff. We dined there after the Fireworks, it felt very cosy.

If you want curry but fancy something a bit different the Ceylon Tavern is ideal. Chicken soup and Wild Boar starters were both delicious. Followed by a selection of curries (small servings so you get to try a real variety). Sauces were delicate but flavourful, with a good choice of meats and seafood. Would recommend the beetroot curry, unusual but lovely! The pittu was bizarre- crumbly, coconut rice bread, but good for mopping up sauce. Short wine list but the Shiraz complimented our food well.

Excellent food and setting at excellent prices. By far the best Sri Lankan restaurant of its kind. A welcome change from the small boutiques an a place welcome to all backgrounds.

If you're looking for authentic food in a quaint setting, this is the place for you. The Ceylon Tavern offers an extensive menu with something for everyone - we opted for a selection of dishes from the curry menu - "curry tapas" if you like. The food was excellent, it was nice to eat somewhere where the chilli symbols actually do mean spicy!
