Description of The Ebury
Dominating a large corner site at the junction of Pimlico Road and Ranelagh Grove near sloaney Sloane Square, The Ebury looks permanently inviting. Just as well it has huge 60s style windows through which you can have a gaze enviously at the charmed individuals inside. And then get yourself inside, order a chocolate caipirinha at the impressive walnut bar then stretch out on chocolate brown leather banquette. Should hunger strike, a seafood bar integrated into the bar offers a selection of oysters, Cornish crab, fresh prawns and Scottish lobster. Drool. Tucked behind the bar is a cosy lounge area with walnut floors and a beautiful fireplace. From here you can admire risqué photographs by Justin Chan and Swiss artist Sylvie Fleurie's 'Flames' which cover the rear wall. A broad reaching wine list includes classic French and New World wines with a focus on Bordeaux in the dining room. The Ebury is super-smart so feel free to dress-up to look that wee bit more affluent.

Additional information for The Ebury
The Ebury is set over two floors. The groundfloor brasserie described above fits 56 people; while the bar takes 50 and the seafood bar groups of up to 24. From the main entrance a sleek staircase leads to an impressive 56-cover dining room where gloriously glamorous Victoriana chandeliers never fail to catch your eye from the street below. Equally attention-grabbing is another fluorescent-orange flame wall painting at one end. Starters include kalamata olive risotto with chargrilled baby squid or gremolata and roast quail with salad paysanne and a deep fried quail egg. Main courses range from breast of wild duck with braised savoy cabbage and parsnip risotto or roast cod with braised oxtail, salsify and girolles. Tempting desserts include bitter chocolate coulant, Derek Creagh's renowned lemon tart and poached pear with pannacotta. The Ebury's smart versatility makes it worth considering for all sorts of events from engagement parties to hen nights to Christmas dinners.

The Ebury Reviews

PN reviewed The Ebury on 08/01/2009

The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, and staff were very attentive (we even had someone to collect our coats and take them to the cloakroom upon arrival). Food was cooked really well, but even with our Top Table special offer, the meal was still a bit pricey (especially by the time you've added drinks and the service charge). All in all, good food, amazing setting and a really enjoyable experience.

The Ebury was chosen as we'd been there before a year ago, I though that the standards had dropped from the previous visit. The bread was stale, when we mentioned this they toasted it & brought the basket back. A side dish of savoy cabbage was drowned in cream without it being mentioned on the menu, the main wasn't warm enough. Scallops supposedly served with chriozo were just like slices of salami. Service was attentive but lacking sparkle. I think the atmosphere maybe best suited to lunchtime.
