The Forge Reviews

We ate at the Forge pre-theatre on a Friday evening. The restaurant was quiet, pleasingly lit and the staff were friendly and professional. Food was fine, but not outstanding. I had a spiced pear salad, stilton and walnut salad to start, which was pleasant and fresh-tasting, although not overwhelming in flavour. My partner was very happy with his prawn and calamari starter. Mains of lingiune vongole and swordfish were adequate.

Visited The Forge on a bleak winter's night. Restaurant beautifully warm as was the welcome. Interesting menu & waiter v helpful with wine selection. Food attractively presented and expertly cooked. As has been mentioned before, the French Onion Soup is outstanding. Almost perfect as a romantic destination apart from tables being a little too close together. If you want somewhere special near, but not in Covent Garden, the The Forge is hard to beat.

Our first visit to The Forge for a birthday party with friends. With the exception that our waiter forgot to tell us what was off the menu until we started ordering, the service was very good. Ambience was excellent and we were all able to converse easily without having to raise our voices, always a plus for me! The Scotch beef and oxtail daube was first class. We will visit again soon, thoroughly recommended.

Just had a 2 course pre theatre set menu at The Forge before a play at The Duke of York Theatre. Food quality was OK but pretty average, which was dissappointing - although service and ambience was good and overall pleasant good value dining. Some chains in the area would have charged as much, and this was definitely several notches above in terms of the overall experience.

The food was excellent and I would definitely go back to The Forge, my only minor criticism is the waiter didn't know anything about the food especially the cheese board.

Pre-theatre meal on New Years Eve. Run of the meal food which was reasonable for the price and service so, so.

The Forge has a varied selection of food on the menu and an extensive wine list. Waiting staff were very knowledgeable and polite, the food we chose was superb. Would thoroughly recommend.

We dined from the pre theatre menu at the forge on new years eve. although the choice was limited my partner and i both found something to our taste. whilst the surroundings and service were good elements of the meal were found wanting. The soup starter was average and the gravad lax was ok but only a small slice. The steak quality for the main was a bit tough although the sauce wag good. The cream in the profiteroles was frozen and the pastry dry. The merlot was very good.

Went to the Forge with 4 french friends on the £27.50 top table deal. There was a great choice on the set menu, and the food when it arrived was very good. Minor gripe that my slow roasted pork belly was very fatty, meaning that there wasn' t that much of it I could eat! However, the starter of walnut and stilton salad was excellent and the tarte tatin was absolutely fantastic. Service was ok, a bit slow, efficient but not friendly. All in all, I would definitely go back.

We opted for the lunch set menu of three courses, which offered a great choice of at least six starters and mains. The service was professional: efficiency with a smile.

We dined at The Forge on Sunday evening (28.12.08) There were not many other people dining so the atmosphere was a little subdued. The meal was good and the service was efficient (but not friendly).
