The Gay Hussar Reviews

Went to Gay Hussar for lunch. Food is OK, but nothing amazing. Having tasted hungarian food on many occasions, I'd say it lacks authenticity. Duck liver was OK but nothing spectacular, even gouliash could have been better. Good food for 50% off deal, too expensive if full-priced for what it is. I suppose the fact that it's for some reason famous with politicians helps the atmosphere. Mind you, who says politicians always make good judgments;) Would go again but only on a special deal

The 50% deal was brilliant and the food was really good but the service was rude and slack. Its the first TT restaurant I've been where I felt the waiters had an issue with us eating cheaply. We had to constantly shout for attention and were not asked at any point during our three course dinner if everything was OK. Seating is very cramped but the overall experience and food was pleasant.

Had a fantastic time dining at the Gay Hussar yesterday evening. We had the goose and pork pate and the salami for starters (Hungarian sausage was not available). Both were delicious. The mains were even better :Pork Medallions and the Crispy Duck. The Poppyseed Strudel is worth a taste also! Great atmosphere although seating arrangements meant we could hear the conversations either side of us. Service was average and we waited a lengthy time to receive our bill.
Will be going again soon.

We enjioyed an excellent dinner at The Gay Huzzar last evening. I had not been there for many years but had often mentioned my previous happy experience to my wife. In the event, neither of us was disappointed.
From the many photographs and caricatures adorning the walls, it was clear that in dining there, we were in good company.
I would certainly be pleased to repeat the experience.

Weird table where was seated side by side facing general corridor. Made talking to campanion tricky. Food all less than hot but service good. Not sure I'd go out of my way to revisit - over £4 for small portion of vegetables seemed pricey.

The Gay Hussar is a great place for fun or work, the menu is vast with generous portions of great hearty food and excellent flavour combinations. Service excellent and well paced as to your liking. This is supurb value especially with the Toptable offer.

Wonderfully cosy old-fashioned surroundings and friendly but formal service. The food was tasty, but wasn't hot when it arrived. Quite pricy for what you get, but worth it for the experience.

The Gay Hussar has something that most restaurnts these days lack and thats character. From the cartoons on the walls to the whacky waiters the expeirence of eating at the hussar is excellent. The food is very well cooked and is a true reflection of hungarian food it is also very well priced. Will be going back
