Description of The Grill at Brown's Hotel
Just steps from Piccadilly and Bond Street, The Grill at Brown's Hotel in Mayfair provides an oasis from the hustle and bustle of central London, making it the perfect place to entertain and meet friends for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Original wood panelling, moss-green leather banquettes, cream linen Roman blinds, 1930s-style Italian lights and a huge fireplace create an instant impression of old-school style and solidity. Of course, the silver carving trolley (one of the last in London) also features, along with 'daily specials' for both lunch and dinner, Battered Cornish cod with chips and tartare sauce, Shepherds Pie and Roast rack of English lamb and mint sauce. Back to the starters - begin with potted Morecambe Bay shrimps with mace and lemon, or pea and ham soup with pancetta crisp. For mains (if you're not tempted by the specials), go à la carte with tournedos of Scottish beef Rossini or roasted sea bass fillet with wild mushrooms and English asparagus, then round off with Earl Grey parfait with raspberry sauce. Legendary maitre d' Angelo Maresca runs the show, while the kitchen is in the talented hands of award-winning chef Laurence Glayzer.

Ensure you go to The Albemarle with a big appetite to as the food is delicious but big potions. Service was exceptional which made our anniversary seem even more special. Can't recommend highly enough the Chapel Down Jelly with Elderflower ice cream.

The Albemarle was a perfectly nice place. The food and service was great, but it was very quiet with only 4 other diners; so the ambience was not fantastic. Overall a nice restaurant.

The whole dining experience was fantastic, even given the fact that the restaurant was extremely busy with Thanksgiving diners. The only time the service dipped below excellent was at the end of the meal when we had a long wait for our coffee to arrive. A tad expensive but worth it for a special occasion. You will not be disappointed!

The Albemarle is a great choice for a destination breakfast and especially suited to a breafast meeting. Offering the usual fare all well executed but as expected for Mayfair you pay a premium.

4 of us ate on 2 January - and we seemed to be the only non-hotel guests dining - so the atmosphere was not as good as it might have been. (Major downside was the hideous photo-collages on the walls - not popular with the three artists dining with me.) That said, the food was excellent and the service fine. Although the menu sounds simple, the quality of the ingredients and cooking was excellent inducing in me a great feeling of well being. Going back soon.
