Description of The Hoxton Apprentice
Like the idea of doing good just by eating out? Much like Jamie Oliver's Fifteen round the corner, the Hoxton Apprentice is a charitable venture that trains the local community's long-term unemployed. There's nothing worthy, mind you, about the décor -a sexy, modern dining space set over two floors of a high-vaulted former primary school. The food, too, is simple, and easy on the pocket. A pleasing menu of European favourites is split into small and large (you choose whether to have a dish as a starter or a main) servings of 'bowls / breads' (including baba ganoush), 'colds' (bruschetta of the day), 'hots' (fillet of beef with dark ale jus, roast pumpkin and roast plum tomatoes), and tasty sides. Good brunch and roasts. There's a nice little pavement terrace for sunny afternoons, and service is really friendly.

A drinks-only menu is offered solely to parties of 20 max in the bar. Well-priced wines and fizz; nothing over £41. Kids are welcome; highchairs happily provided on request. Disabled toilet. Occasional live jazz. Open from noon seven days a week. All profit from the restaurant is re-invested in the charity.

Always reliable for good service, great food and a relaxed atmosphere. I'm a big fan of Hoxton Apprentice and I will definitely be coming back.

Nice place, fawning (in the good way) service. Two mains, a bottle of plonk plus a generous tip for £40. Proximity to some of the coolest bars in London makes this a great place for a pre-partying night out.

Hoxton Apprentice: Very friendly service, good decent food, great setting, lovely music. Can't be faulted for a simple straightforward good meal in a nice setting. Definite recommend.

Hoxton Apprentice always gets my vote because the staff are friendly and anxious to please. The service was unobtrusive but efficient. Food excellent, and though the portions could be bigger, well presented and well-cooked. It was a quiet night, so we felt a little lost in what is a converted primary school building, but there was a good pianist playing sets and overall this was a v nice evening for a relaxed meal. Bill for two courses and a drink came to £30 which we thought very reasonable.

We had an early lunch booking & were 1st customers, luckily, as it turns out as an Xmas lunch party of 40ish arrived just after we had ordered. our food arrived smoothly and was excellent, my wife thought here salmon, although plainly cooked, was about the best she had tasted & we both thought the home made xmas pud was superb. The staff were friendly & the service fine. an upstairs table looking down on the main restaurant gave us plenty to watch & time passed quickly.

The hoxton apprentice is a great idea well executed: good food at reasonable prices and providing opportunities for disadvantaged people to get into work. The only downside was the service was slightly slow but by no means allow this to put you off, it was a great evening

We enjoyed the food at the Hoxton Apprentice - warm balmy evening, ate outside but very noisy as bar over the road was heaving. Service was slow and charmless

This was the worst service I have ever had at the Hoxton Apprentice, even allowing for the training it was poor. The food was OK though.

Chris has used this restaurnat before and was very impressed so he he wanted to take his important clients, the service was really slow and this emabrrsed him as they had didn't have enough time to continue the meeting

Based in trendy Hoxton Square, this place has a great atmosphere, simple decor, friendly, attentive service, and classic jmainazz in the background. The food is good, and neatly presented, but not excellent. Starters come in small or large portions, so are great to share around the table. The mains are not as strong as the appetizers or desserts; both fish and meat were slightly over-cooked for my liking, although still nice. The lemon bread and butter pudding was excellent.

Being a resident of the hoxton area i thought i'd give the hoxton apprentice a shout after being recommended by a friend. Although not very busy the keyboard player and lively waiter added a certain ambience and the manu seemed impressive. Although not as cheap as i would have liked, costing nearly £60 for a shared starter, mains each and a bottle of lovely wine, it was good value for money. The food was top quality and the service friendly and attentive without being overbearing.

I have been to The Hoxton Apprentice a few times and always like it. It was quiet on a Tuesday night but we took a table at the back which had a cosy feel. Service was OK if not a little clinical. The menu is short but there is a good range of choice. I had haddock which was cooked to perfection with a side order of greens and Hoxton chips. Interestingly, the greens came with carrots!

I very much like Apprentice and liked the concept of helping out a social project at the same time. I ordered the haddock and chips and was suitably impressed.

The Hoxton Apprentice needs to shape up a bit on the service, otherwise OK

alright.

The service was good and the atmosphere was friendly and inviting. I feel they let themselvews down with their desserts, which were nothing special or particularly tasty a stark contrast to the flavoursome main dishes.

The Hoxton Apprentice needs to update the menu and provide a more flexible offering for lunches. Service wasn't brilliant either.
