Description of The Lonsdale
The lovely Lonsdale has earned itself an award-winning reputation since opening at the end of 2002. How? It looks like no other bar or restaurant you've ever seen - a cross between Sixties retro funk and the inside of a spaceship describes it best. Opened by Henry Besant who used to preside over the bars at the Sanderson and St Martins Lane, and now managed by Phillip Jeffrey, formerly of the GE Club and Hugo's Lounge in Sydney. Knowing precisely which style boxes to tick, they've created a sophisticated, chilled space. A highlight of the uniquely classic menu is the Confit of chicken, foie gras and wild mushroom sausage roll with artichoke purée and truffle sauce. With a menu featuring an array of small dishes, you're encouraged to eat three or four dishes in a sitting, ensuring ample time and room to savour your choice from Dick and Henry's 60-strong cocktail list (we especially like the Rose Petal Martini). At weekends expect a poser-ish crowd... from fashionable Notting Hillbillies to brogue-wearing City boys hoping the cool will rub off on them. Please be aware that dinner menu is slightly reduced on Sunday and Monday nights. Dinner bookings have a two hour time slot - although they will try to let you keep the table longer if possible. Usually open until midnight, but on Friday and Saturday nights until 1am. A 2am license can be applied for, for private parties.

Additional information for The Lonsdale
On Fridays and Saturdays the Lonsdale gets very packed so it's well worth booking a table in advance. Exclusive hire is yours for a maximum of 100 seated, or 220ish for a reception. However, there is a designated private room, or rather a private bar on the first floor. Called Genevieve, it takes groups of up to 28 seated, and double that if you're planning to offer your guests canapés rather than a set menu, for a more relaxed cocktail party.

The Lonsdale Reviews

As my wife and I are vegetarian I booked this restaurant as it said it was vegetarian friendly. There was only a handful of veggie food available! Only one option in the starter and one in the mains I don't call that very vegetarian friendly? Food we did get was good and service was excellent.

Londsdale was great, nothing more to say.

The Lonsdale is a great place to graze over a variety of small plates and cocktails. The Scallops were a bit small for the price but the Onglet was to die for. Service was great, but an extra staff member would have really helped when they got busy.

This was the 2nd time I'd visited the Lonsdale and it was brilliant. We went for a family night out and it's the perfect venue to chat with people and enjoy a meal in trendy, upmarket surroundings and not break the bank.
cocktails are lovely and the food is deliciious and very reasonably priced.

Had my birthday party @ Lonsdale - the atmosphere and chats were facilitated by the amazing cocktails the bartenders prepared. And if you like tequila and tequila cocktails, ask Oscar to fix you something! A treasure.

What a pleasant surprise! I went with a group of 4 other 'high maintenance' women none of whom had ever been there either and our waiter Olivier was FANTASTIC! The food was great, massive selection of cocktails and wines - all in all it was just a fabulous evening. Will definitely be going back.

The Lonsdale, has a great local feel we had a fab friday night meal after a long trip down to London, staff we're very attentive and I have recommended it to our friends in London. My only complaints where, there was just 2 of us and we're sat facing a party of 20 people who stood over our table throughout our meal, annoying as we where told on arrival that they would be sitting down and although the small plates are nice they are on the pricey side, 3 cocktail 6 small plates inc cheese £100

The Lonsdale was a great little find, friendly atmosphere and the magic was amazing (Wednesday nights). A lovely evening and fabulous cocktail menu too!

The Londsdale is a great please when we talk about cocktails and good service. Even though the miso pork was very good, there was way to much fat on it and the shirmps were excessively small and almost frozen!! I think they have to take a second look at the higene in the WC... and it was a Wednesday at 7PM! Overall, better go there to have the best drinks but have a sandwich prior to arrival.

The Lonsdale - 22 August 2008 - More of a cocktail bar than a restaurant. The food was okay from a minimalist menu. The staff? One waitress was great and she really tried hard to make up for the skinny models who were clumsy and awkward. Probably only visit again for a cocktail after work.
