Description of The Only Running Footman
The newly brushed-up and re-launched Only Running Footman in Mayfair definitely hasn't lost any of its British roots in the process. This much-loved pub, restaurant and private event space houses elegant, yet unpretentious surroundings, complete with a truly British menu featuring home-grown produce direct from the farmers. Guests can slide up to the long mahogany bar or comfy booth seating and enjoy traditional Blighty breakfasts or old-style pub menu favourites later on. The restaurant is a bit plusher, serving stylish items like south coast fish soup with saffron and rouille and a Running Footman traditional mixed grill against a backdrop of gold velvet chairs and carpeting. For those who feel that the wine bar set have lost sight of what made Britain great, The Only Running Footman is definitely for you.

The Only Running Footman delivered a great lunch as always. Hopefully taking clients over the Christmas period - if we can get in!

The Only Running Footman is a clean and unpretentious middle market place that does nice food and has a good wine list. One piece of constructive criticism I would offer was that I was dining with a vegetarian and that limited her to only one choice on the menu, which was a bit disappointing in this day and age! Overall though very enjoyable.

Good looking venue, pleasant bar staff downstaris and the atmosphere upstairs was pleasant without being stuffy, you could dress up or remain a little more casual and neither would look out of place. Fare is top quality English and all organic which meant the veal chop was superb, the vegetables extremely tasty (tomatoes are a favourite of mine!!) and the calves liver cooked to perfection. I would (and already have) recommend this place for a dinner with friends.

I had lunch at "The Only Running Footman" in Mayfair with 5 friends on Sat 23 August. We ate in the restuarant above the pub, which was more formal. Unforunately, we were a little disappointed that they were only serving food from the pub menu rather than from the full a la carte menu. However, the room was very pleasant, the food was excellent and our waiter was really lovely, so all in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience!

I had two courses at The Only Running Footman, both on the specials board and was not disappointed. We arrived early one Saturday lunchtime and were the only diners but it quickly filled up. Only criticism was that the windows were taken out as it was a hot day and a man on the pavement table was smoking a cigar whose smoke came right in on us - it was like the bad old days!

Our offices are located round the corner from ORF and we book this venue weekly...surely it must be good!

Took a business prospect for lunch at the Running Footman. Short menu (plus daily specials) were a nice touch as it meant we had more time to talk and less browsing of pages and pages of dishes. I am a big fan of places that do a few things well, - although I have seen the other comments here requesting variation in the menu. I guess that is only an issue if you plan to go back?! Based on this visit, I'd say 'yes.' Wine list was extensive, house white excellent, downstairs pub diner also buzzing

Dining at The Only Running Footman is like having lunch at the home of a posh friend. Elegantly homelike atmosphere and attentive service make the meal comfortable and memorable. The portions, even for starters, are generous - we probably didn't need the side dish of chunky chips but we enjoyed them anyway. The cooking style is modern without being too trendy. Sweets are delightfully old-fashioned - the sticky toffee pudding was delicious.

Four of us had dinner at the Only Running Footman last night. We'd book for the restaurant but ended up eating in the bar as the atmosphere was much better. Food was great and the wine list is really good but waiting staff could be more experienced and efficient. Would definitely recommended this place for good food in a relaxed environment or for drinks after work.

The Only Running Footman is a real surprise. A great white talbe cloth restaurant above a lovely pub in MayFair. Excellent Food, Wine ans Service and not expensive. Great traditional dishes - the calves liver was excellent!

I like coming here.... when I sit downstairs! I was seated upstairs on the 1st floor and it was the worst lunch iv had thanks to the waiter. I asked if I could have battered cod and chips which they always do and he said no. i ordered something else with chips. The chips never came until the end of the meal- I had to remind them I ordered some. When my meal came, 2 minutes later the table next to me get battered cod and chips! the waiter never wasted time with us as we didn't wear suites today!

Much nicer now that it has been done up - ate downstairs with some friends who were in town from the States. Good food, freindly service - a good choice if you are looking for good food in a pub environment - also has the restaurant upstairs which is quieter if you are after some peace and quiet...
