Description of The Painted Heron
The Painted Heron has been recommended to us so many times by so many diners that we are happy to now recommend it to you. Winner of a big restaurant award early in its career, The Painted Heron is a charming and original Indian restaurant tucked away on an unassuming corner of deepest Chelsea. Head chef Yogesh Datta uses the freshest of seasonal ingredients in his innovative dishes, so the menu changes daily. The dining room is light and airy, a series of interconnecting spaces on different levels that are dotted with interesting English artwork, and the clientele tend to be food-lovers of all kinds, but especially the grownup Chelsea set. We can vouch for the starter of crab with red onion and chilli in dosa pancake, the main course of double lamb chops tandoor roasted with mint, the peas and baby corn in fenugreek curry, the nutty naan, and the ginger ice cream. The wine list is pretty terrific with more than thirty available by the glass. The staff are swift and smiling and we can't blame them.

Additional information for The Painted Heron
This idyllic Indian restaurant with its various interconnected dining spaces and small courtyard is just right for intimate gatherings in celebration of just about anything worth celebrating. The food is award-winning, innovative cooking, while the ambience is both smart and relaxed. The art-dotted walls, the polished wooden floors, the white napery and super-polite waitstaff all add to a feeling that you and your party are being very well looked-after by pros who know what they're about. One dining area, seating about 25, can be made exclusive, and the courtyard can be reserved for parties, too. Try starter of tandoor roasted black tiger prawns with pomegranate extract, main course of their own chicken tikka in honey and chilli marinade, rosemary naan, and pud of gorgeous sorbets. Wine list is a very good match for the menu.

The Painted Heron Reviews

We had a large party for dinner at the Painted Heron so we opted for the set menu, which was quite reasonably priced at 32 pounds a head, and included 3 different appetizers, 4 main courses, rice, naan bread, all of these to share, and a dessert. The food was delicious, especially the main courses--my favorite was the lamb, which was prepared in a cardamom-infused sauce. Moreover, the wines on the menu were very reasonably priced, great selection with even the cheaper ones being of good quality.

Very busy (good air conditioning) but party of ten dealt with effeciently and politely, never felt rushed. Generous portions, helpful advice with ordering. Balanced spicing and flavours - not too much chili!. Recommended

I would like to say that the food at the Painted Heron was faultless, but there is always room for improvement. However, it must be said that it ran very close, indeed. The staff were extremely friendly and were immediately on hand whenever required. All-in-all a fantastic culinary experience in one of the less coveted eateries in the chelsea area. Well done to everyone concerned!

I would defnitely recommend The Painted Heron. The atmosphere was buzzy & lively, the service attentive and the food delicious (although the venison korma was slightly overcooked and chewy!). A pricey but tasty night out!

I've a;was been a fan of the Painted Heron and I can call myself a regular. I think they have raised their game even more recently with improved starters (pigeon was excellent) and a fabulous Sunday, Monday deal on their bst wines.

The Painted Heron is a gem of an Indian Restaurant. Although a little expensive it is the best Indian food I have ever eaten - better than Chutney Mary.
