Description of The Real Greek Souvlaki & Bar - Clerkenwell
The Real Greek Souvlaki & Bar opened just north of Smithfield Market in April 2003, the welcome offspring of the much-loved The Real Greek down the road in Hoxton. In modern, buzzy, congenial surroundings, all sorts of Londoners and tourists gather to pick 'n' mix their way through delicious mezedes and souvlaki - the Greek version of street food. The kebabs - pork, lamb, chicken and a superb spicy sausage - are all very good and juicy; the authentic Greek -imported flat bread, nicely oily and dense. Favourites include the gigandes plaki (big oven-cooked beans) and tender dolmades. The wine list is completely Greek, and sold in carafes. Just like in Greece. Very good value.

Great food, the lunch time meal specials are great value although you certainly need the full hour as service is a little slow. Definitely worth it!

Real Greek serves good food but lacks efficiency and value. Food is overpriced, service is slow, drinks are expensive. My souvlaki sat on the bar for 30 mins and was only served when I asked for it. The kefte wasn't cooked fully - the portions are stingy too. The restaurant had approx 10 diners so no excuse for slow, inattentive service and forgetting orders. I had a 50% discount so I got value for money but I wouldn't recommend it and probably wouldn't go back there

I went for a quick lunch to The Real Greek Souvlaki & Bar - Clerkenwell with some guys from work yesterday and was very impressed. The smell that hits you as you walk in is great. The food was good we had a couple of shared platters which were great and there was plenty of it. Also they worked perfectly with our hour lunch. I will go again.

The Real Greek - Clerkenwell is a good place to meet friends and have a relaxed meal. Service slow at first but improved as we went along.

Sensationally wonderful food, with the tastes of fresh herbs adding a clean sprightlyness to otherwise standard known dishes. The meletzanasalata is to die for, with lovely fresh f;latbread. The tables needed to be a bit bigger to hold all the dishes ordered, but an ingenious tiered stand helps on thsi. Only two gripes. One- mend the loo seat and the second, surely Greek coffee should be as good and thick and satisfying as Turkish!

Great food but a bit cheeky with the service charge of £25! Would go back again though.

Had a good night at The Real Greek. Was quiet for a Friday night, but the food was good as was the service (especially as it was the waiters first night). Not a great restaurant, but for a reasonably priced night out, catching up with friends it ticked all the right boxes.

GS reviewed The Real Greek Souvlaki & Bar - Clerkenwell on 15/11/2008

the food was ok but not sustaintial and not really any main courses, it was like a Greek version of tapas

The Real Greek in Clerkenwell is very good. Having been to the one in Covent Garden and Bankside, I would recommend this one as well. Despite being chains and run independently all of them maintain good food and service. I would recommend you try it.

Exactly what you would expect from any Real Greek restaurant, all very nice.
