Description of Upstairs Bar & Restaurant
Upstairs Bar and Restaurant is a chic, unpretentious restaurant tucked away upstairs in a Victorian corner house on Brixton's Acre Lane. With soft colours, open fires, reclaimed wooden floors and leather banquettes, Upstairs Bar and Restaurant has the ambience of an intimate local supper club. Frequented by low-key celebs and designers, the understated restaurant was recently awarded the seal of approval from Michelin with a Bib Gourmand. Upstairs is ideal for discreet meals and private parties, with a bar located on the first floor. The short, Francophilic menu changes fortnightly - but signature dishes include grilled sardines with provencal vegetables; steak tartare and melon with port; and the traditional English apple crumble.

Upstairs Bar and Restaurant is fantastic - hidden away and hard to find but worth it! Best service I've had in ages and fantastic food - would recommend the taster menu.

Really cosy venue - a definite find in this area

I love tUpstairs restaurant- it is so intimate and the fact that there is no outward signs that there is a restaurant even there means that the word of mouth crowd who make the effort give it a great atmosphere. The food was spot on, as always, as was the service.

Upstairs bar and restaurant is a real find. If I hadn't found it through top table I would have no idea it was there. I took my boyfriend there for his birthday and they made it a really special evening. We had a drink in the bar followed by the tasting menu in the restaruant. Everything was delicious and they even put a candle in my boyfriends desert. It was a bit on the expensive side, but worth evey penny and I would definatley go back.

We had an amazing meal at Upstairs. The food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. The price was reasonable and I would strongly reccommend this place to a friend. (although I'd prefer not too many people knew about it!)

Upstairs Bar and Restaurant is a fantastic find, it's a shame I live in North London! I would highly recommend it. Pre-dinner cocktails in the bar was perfect. Food was very well presented and extremely flavoursome. I had Mackeral Escabeche followed by Duck Breast which was cooked to perfection (rare). My guest had Slow Roasted Pork Belly followed by Cepe Risotto. Portions are very generous. The staff were very attentive and informative. The aslo have an extensive wine list. Try it!

This time we had the tasting menu and it was superb. Can't fault Upstairs in any way. My favourite London restaurant.

Upstairs is a cracking little place with great food- and when I say little I mean tiny. The whole venue is evidently a small flat converted into a cosy 20 seat(?) restaurant and pre-dinner cocktail bar. Having had to book almost a week in advance, myself and a friend went on a Friday night. Subtle lighting and soft music give it a relaxed, even romantic, air to the place. The service was polite, swift and unobtrusive though the menu was short with only half a dozen starters, mains, and desserts.

Upstairs is a great find. Definitely the best food I've eaten in Brixton for a long time. I'll be back!

The choice was quite limited - 3 options for each course But the food was pretty good, though I would have liked some vegetables not just bolied potatoes with my fish. The space was smart but I'm not sure I'd try the stairs again with my 90 year old father LA

Upstairs Bar & Restaurant is an interesting restaurant in what used to be a house. Simple menu but well done. My desert of Sticky Toffee Pudding was burnt and the head guy acknowledged that the sous chef had pretty much admitted as such. But he dealt with it well - nice bloke.

Go for the beef with snails main course - huge portion. The risotto was probably a bit too creamy and rich.

To the restaurant: get rid of the cheap pepper and use actual pepper corns. Please.

The Upstairs Bar & Restaurant was a great venue. It's intimate, friendly and relaxed; you feel as if you're having dinner at your friends house! The menus are kept simple which is probably the secret of their success; you only have 3 choices per course but each is cooked to perfection! Don't expect to have a private conversation - the tables are very close together, but it all adds to the ambience. We would definitely go there again.
