Description of Wood Street Bar & Restaurant
Tucked away in Barbican with a cosmopolitan lakeside setting, Wood Street Bar and Restaurant is a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle for London's city workers. The restaurant's New-York-steak-house vibe and old-school private booths make it conducive to discreet working lunches and after-work drinks and dinner with friends. The kitchen, headed up by Phil Kendall, boasts an assured menu described as 'British with various Mediterranean influences'. Favourite dishes include the tempura soft shell crab with dipping sauce; 28 day aged rib-eye with butternut squash and potato gratin, watercress and Bearnaise sauce, and the whole rasted sole with chips and tartare sauce. The sensational Sunday roasts at the Wood Street Bar and Restaurant are legendary.

Wood Street Bar & Restaurant Reviews

wood street in the barbican ... nice views over the concrete beauty of the poshest housing estate in london, and good food at reasonable prices ... lamb, fish and chips, a pie ... some other "modern british" stuff too ... don't plan a late night though because the music was off at 10.30pm and the staff looked very tired ... but worth a trip

The Wood Street Bar and Restaurant had very friendly, attentive waiters. The food was reasonable. I think it was a bit too meat heavy and there were not enough vegetables. The meat was good, but a little dry and tough. The pudding was tasty and the cappuccino was very good

Great value with 50% off

Wood Street Bar & Restaurant.

I went here on a Wednesday, before heading over to the Barbican and was allocated a seat next to the huge window overlooking the entrance to the Barbican over the water feature. The service was excellent, and the puddings (as mentioned in other reviews) were very tasty. I had the kid burger and found the meat to be tasty. Only problem was the slightly oily chips.

I would recommend Wood street bar and restaurant. The food was superb. A nice little spot off the busy surrounding streets.

Wood Street & Restaurant is a good venue for meeting friends for a chat. Service was slow at first but improved considerably

It was a struggle to find the restaurant part of this 'bar and restaurant'. On Friday night it constituted 3 tables at the back of the building, with great views onto the lake. I must admit my heart sunk when I saw the place and heard the lively Friday night revellers at the bar. But when the food came, it all paled into the background. The menu was short but interesting and everything we had was fresh, delightful and gorgeous. Service was friendly and attentative and despite my original misgivings we had a really great night. With the 50% off it's a real steal, please go!

Wood Street Bar and Restaruant - food, as ever, was good and fresh. However, we did not get the 50% discount to which we were entitled.

Nice place - surprisingly good views across the water to the barbican arts centre. Only approach via wood street - trying to come in across the barbican is a recipe for wandering in circles for a couple of hours!

Food excellent, seat by the window. A freshing break from some city style over substance venues. Good food.

Went to Wood Street Bar and Restaurant on a Wednesday night for a meal with 2 friends. Whilst it was rather quiet (which suited us!), the service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing. We had the 50% off food and we all enjoyed what we had. Food was very good quality (try the braised pork cheeks!) presented beautifully and tasty. I'd consider this place a little tucked away gem if you like good food in unpretentious surroundings and great service. We'll go again!

Went for a work lunch at Wood Street. Service was very slow so we only had 15 mins to rush down our food, but the food was pleasant enough. That said its only worth doing on the 50% off - at full price this would be a real rip off.

Excellent as usual

Had a very pleasant meal. Service was very friendly and helpful. Food was great value with the 50% off deal. Will be booking a return trip!

I took my girlfriend there on a Wednesday evening using their 50% off food bill deal. The food was good, including some interesting starters and a perfectly cooked steak. In fact, my only complaint was the restaurant's close proximity to the bar which was filled with loud city boys shouting about money. Generally I had an enjoyable evening and the deal made it excellent value for money. But would I go again? With the deal? Probably. Without the deal? Definitely not.

Wood street bar again provided a tasty meal, which was good value with the 50% discount. The only slight disappointment was the desert which had a great filling but a slightly overcooked pastry. Still a great meal tho! House wine was actually very drinkable, and they made a great irish coffee to round off the evening.

very good find, and the food is exceptional...

I came here when this used to be an old school city pub. There food has definately improved but scratch beneath the surface nand its not that different from the old pub - I'm sure the furniture is still the same! Service was friendly though and the food was delcious, will come again.

Alex Wilson reviewed Wood Street Bar & Restaurant on 25/11/2008

The menu was tantalising - would have loved to try all the varied combinations within it - was even tempted to have two starters instead of a main meal as choosing between them was hard. Would go again - the 50% off deal is very worthwhile. To summarise: the food was very good and service was good.
